Early March - Moving Done

It took seven weeks of almost non-stop work, but the last load was finally unloaded, the parsonage emptied and cleaned, and we were able to breathe a collective sigh of relief on a Thursday afternoon in the 3rd week of March.

While Dave and Fred coordinated the work at the parsonage, Cathy and Pat spent time back at Faith, finishing projects left undone due to the move and continuing to clean up and organize rooms at the church. But we did manage to get away for a weekend to spend time with family at a baby shower.

Getting it Done
With the loss of many of our volunteers at the end of February, Dave turned to Beyond 90 to help solve the labor problem. With their new First 90 responsibilities, they were working with a number of recent arrivals, a few of whom had just received their working papers, and were eager to get to work.

So, on the first Monday of the month, Dave and Fred picked up a team of six workers along with Pastor Ricardo and began the work in earnest at the parsonage. Since all the of the workers were from Spanish-speaking countries, Pastor Ricardo’s translation abilities were greatly appreciated.

The workers attacked the packing and loading with enthusiasm and good humor. Their work continued daily, but was necessarily interrupted by training requirements for new arrivals back at First 90. And one of the training exercises was to open a bank account, which was facilitated by their first paycheck for a week’s work.

By the middle of the third week, Cathy and Pat joined the crew to help coordinate and lend a hand in cleaning the house for its final inspection. Just after noon on the Thursday of the 3rd week, the loading, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and window washing was done. We celebrated back at the church with a cake, and Pastor Mike handed out "golden" pens to acknowledge all that they had done.

Meanwhile, Back at the Church . . .

Cathy and Pat had a checklist of things needing their attention at the church while the parsonage move was in full swing.

Back in January, the office floor was being re-tiled when supply problems and the re-focus on the move put the job on hold. The office staff graciously accepted the delay of many weeks, working over a half-finished floor. Pat and Cathy were glad to be able to put the final tiles in place, clean and wax them, and finish installing and painting the baseboard. The result looks good, especially in comparison to the disarray from the many weeks of installation.

A less visible project in the office was covering the re-built floor in the Pastor’s closet. The old flooring had been damaged by water intrusion, and while a new subfloor had been installed, it needed some carpet installed. Cathy and Pat did this work as well, installing the transition, and cleaning up a mess of wires and hole in the wall just inside the pastor’s office.

And back in the Mission Rooms, we cleaned and re-assembled Mission Room 3 after some construction and repairs during the Nomads project had left it in disarray.

RV Stuff
Well, it wasn’t our RV that prompted the call to the Mobile repair service, but when our neighbor’s awning collapsed under the weight of a rainstorm, we called Shane from 1Sec Mobile Repair to help them out and check out a couple of things on our RV as well.

To our surprise and our neighbor’s delight, Shane repaired the awning pretty quickly (and inexpensively). We had him do a little work on our roof, with a follow-on appointment to be scheduled to look at our trailer brakes.

Family Time

We took a weekend off from move activities to join our nephew Jeff and his wife Madison for a baby shower near their home in Melbourne. It was great seeing them again, it having been years since we were able to spend time together. Wendy and Dave, Janelle, Mike and Jack were there too, so it was a mini family reunion.
