Late May – Hosting Done
We finished our hosting assignment at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston as the month ended. We had a chance to connect with some more friends while in the area, while assisting Faith with some software conversions with a June deadline.

Our hosting activities were pretty quiet for the last part of May. Except, of course, for Memorial Day weekend, with every site filled. We had a new partner host that arrived mid-month who, thankfully, continued her predecessor’s bathroom cleaning and helped manage the larger group sites.

Our trash duties were a bit like an archaeological excavation, and somewhat profitable. We collected over a dollar in spare change, and more pop-tabs than we thought possible (weren’t they discontinued in the 80’s?) Along with the endless cigarette butts and bottle caps. And we continued to help out the occasional distressed camper, like helping retract a stuck RV slide with a breaker bar and some brute force.

On our off hours, we enjoyed more time in the park and visiting with friends. We joined Cookie and Jerry for a dinner out , and had Jannie over for a BBQ with us in the park. Dave discovered that our eye doctor had moved from Richmond to a nearby practice in Silver Spring, so we had scheduled an eye exam as well. And we continued to support Faith as well. Cathy updated the website and Dave worked with a vendor to convert their accounting and payroll software, among other things for their new identity.

By May 31, we were packed up and ready to head out.  We were heading north, out of DC traffic and to spend some time in PA and NY visiting friends and family for the summer.

I think this volunteer experience was a wee bit different from the Pocahontas State Park volunteer experience. Looking forward to experiencing that hosting with you. Beautiful FALL. Safe travels as you journey on and grand family and friend reunions.
