Late March - All Aboard

On March 18th, we boarded a train in Jacksonville for our 2+ week journey to the west coast and back. Traveling on 5 different Amtrak routes, we made our way to Seattle and back, taking advantage of Amtrak’s sleeper cars for our 9 nights spent on the trains. While we were able to spend time in Washington DC and Chicago en route, our only extended stay was in the Seattle area for a week, visiting friends and sightseeing a bit.

In sharp contrast to Jacksonville, we traveled through many miles of snow-covered plains and mountains, waking up to single digit temperatures as we made our way through North Dakota. Although we packed a pair of shorts “just in case”, we didn’t actually wear them until shortly before we arrived back in Florida.

And it was a treat to visit with our friends in Seattle. George and Gail had moved there last fall. We spent a few days with them, enjoying the hospitality of their daughter’s family who put us up. We also had a chance to visit with Christa (whom we met and worked with at Pocahontas) and meet her adorable 8-week old daughter Louise. And then we spent a wonderful evening with Sandy and Greg at their home, Sandy having been a friend of Cathy’s family since both were in high school.

It is hard to capture all of the wonderful scenery and experiences of the trip in a few words or even a few pictures. So, instead, as we traveled each day, we posted a video to share the trip with others. You can check them out here.

What a glorious trip. Thank you for sharing it and congratulations on your planning that made what was dream to coming true. Great running documentary of your experiences and the majestic splendor of the country we call home...north, south, east to west. Weclome home.

Whenever I try to use the “Seattle to Jacksonville” link, it just brings me back to the same monthly blog post rather than those videos. The other two links seem to work fine?
